Despite being early in the season, the Renegades have made a strong start. Conversely, SydneyThunder have now suffered two defeats in three games. While their performance tonight was not as poor as their last game, they will still be disappointed with the loss.
This victory is sure to boost the morale of the Renegades, even though it wasn't a must-win or playoff game. They haven't managed to chase a score of 170 or more since the 2020 season, and the Docklands stadium doesn't typically see many high chases. All of these factors make this win particularly special. However, it didn't start off well for the Renegades, with Harper falling in the first over.
Jake Fraser's brief stint at the crease was indicative of the changes we are seeing from the Renegades this season. Maddinson, who is in good form, helped to increase the tempo with some strong hits, but it was Finch who was the standout batter for the Renegades tonight. He timed the ball perfectly from the beginning and looked like he was rolling back the years.
He batted throughout the innings and helped guide his team to victory. The Thunder fought hard, picking up wickets at regular intervals, and Sams was particularly impressive. However, Finch was determined and, after having seen many close games slip away in recent years, he was eager to turn a new leaf tonight.
