Lucknow Super Giants emerged winners in the eleventh match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as they defeated Punjab Kings by 21 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. Lucknow batting first after winning the toss and posted 199 for eight. Punjab then started well but couldn’t cash in as they managed just 178 for five to suffer their second loss of the season.
Lucknow lost KL Rahul, who was playing as an impact player, Devdutt Padikkal and Marcus Stoinis early, which saw them reeling at 78 for three. Quinton de Kock (54:38b, 5x4, 2x6) and Nicholas Pooran (42:21b, 3x3, 3x6) then led the rescue charge and played well for their 47 run stand for the fourth wicket. After their wicket, Krunal Pandya (43 not out:22b, 4x4, 2x6) stole the limelight and made sure Lucknow ended with a big total on board. His innings powered the hosts to a total of 199 for eight. For Punjab, Sam Curran (three for 28) was the pick of the bowlers.
Punjab were off to a brutal start in the chase, thanks to Jonny Bairstow (42:29b, 3x4, 3x6) and Shikhar Dhawan (70: 50b, 7x4, 3x6) The duo added 102 runs for the opening partnership that made Lucknow bowlers look clueless. Mayank Yadav with his fiery pace brought Lucknow back in the game as he picked three quick wickets and put pressure back on the visitors. Yadav picked three wickets and tilted the game in his team’s favour. Liam Livingstone (28 not out:17b, 2x4, 2x6) tried his best but the target was too much in the end as Punjab lost by 21 runs.
