Match Analysis
The Adelaide Strikers have lost to the Hobart Hurricanes by 5 wickets, on a gloomy evening at Ninja Stadium.
Led by a brutal Tim David masterclass, The Hurricanes chased 186 in the 19th over to secure their place in the top 4 of KFC BBL14.
The Adelaide Strikers won the toss and elected to bat first, posting an imposing total.
The innings was a story of two parts, power and elegance. The brute force of Chris Lynn (49) was only matched by the dutiful running and delicate touch of Ross (47) and Pope (33).
Whilst Lynn maintained his reputation as the leagues most decorated hitter at the top of the order, the middle order found runs as they danced around the crease and placed pressure upon the fielders.
The batting innings had got off to a rocky start, with the dismissal of Short (1) and a head knock for Lynn threatening to end the innings before it had a chance to start.
The slow bowling of Waqar Salamkheil (2-22) found grip on a good length, while Meredith (1-26) and Stanlake (1-38) found steep bounce halfway down the wicket.
The innings maintained a consistent momentum, with Overton (27*) hitting out in the final 3 overs to boost the total to 186, 20 beyond the historic par score of Ninja Stadium.
With rain threatening to end the match, the Hurricane openers struck out in an attempt to get ahead of the DLS system, forcing length balls square of the wicket and jumping on anything wide. Mitchell Owen hit 3 consecutive sixes to force the home side ahead of the requirements for a shortened innings.
With 51 on the board at the end of the power play, the Strikers opted to slow things down, handing the ball over to the twin leg-spinners Lloyd Pope and Cameron Boyce. The game twisted with the ball in the air, as the duo tore through the top order, claiming the wickets of Owen (37), Wade (27), McDermott (17), and Hope (11).
The power surge saw the Hurricanes gain control of the match once more, with persistent pace on deliveries being treated with disdain by Tim David (62*) – 41 runs coming off the two overs.
With little more than a run a ball required, the batting duo left little to chance, taking every possible chance to clear the rope and reel in the total.
Now THIS is how you finish a match!
