Ireland fought hard through a battling innings from Harry Tector, but couldn’t prevent Sri Lanka securing a 2-0 Test series win.

Nishan Madushka and Kusal Mendis both made double centuries against Ireland Thursday as Sri Lanka's top four batters all hit hundreds for only the third time in Test history.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka both hit centuries as they amassed a record Sri Lankan opening stand in Galle of 228 in the second Test against Ireland on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka completed victory by an innings and 280 runs on day three in Galle, as Ireland were outplayed by their hosts in spin-friendly conditions.

Two late wickets gave Ireland hope on an otherwise dominant day one for Sri Lanka in Galle. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis both scored centuries as the home side piled on 386 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Ireland are touring Sri Lanka to participate in a 2 match Test series beginning on the 16th of April. The second Test of the series will be played on the 24th of April.

Cricket Ireland has today confirmed it has agreed to a schedule change that will see Ireland Men’s tour of Sri Lanka in April become a two-match Test series in Galle.
