Middlesex vs Surrey, Group A

Middlesex and Surrey will have to wait for a first win in this season's Metro Bank One-Day Cup after their clash at Radlett was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Heavy overnight rain left the playing area at the Brunton Memorial Ground soaked and with no sign of any let up in the weather the umpires decided soon after midday no play would be possible.

The London rivals lost their opening encounters in the competition to Hampshire and Leicestershire respectively.

Both sides will hope the weather gods will be kinder to them on Friday when Middlesex travel to Chelmsford to face Essex and Surrey entertain Kent at the Oval.

Nottinghamshire vs Yorkshire, Group A

The wet summer continued to wreak havoc on Yorkshire’s season as their Metro Bank One-Day Cup match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge was abandoned without a ball bowled.

The Vikings squad arrived at the ground with rain falling and the square fully covered. With the forecast poor for the rest of the day and the outfield already saturated, umpires Rob Bailey and Neil Mallender decided after a 12.30pm inspection that no play would be possible.

It is the second total wash-out in three days for Yorkshire after Thursday’s scheduled 50-over Roses match at Scarborough went the same way. It means their record in Group A so far consists of two no-results and a narrow defeat against Kent at Scarborough chasing an adjusted target

Yorkshire have not enjoyed a match with no disruption by the weather since their Vitality Blast fixture against Birmingham Bears at Headingley on June 22.

The weather spelt frustration for the Outlaws too. Of their four home fixtures in the competition, this was the only one scheduled for Trent Bridge.

With their headquarters ground hosting Trent Rockets in The Hundred, their games against Hampshire, Surrey and Lancashire are all to be played at Welbeck Cricket Club’s ground at Sookholme, near Mansfield.

Outlaws, who reached the quarter-finals of the One-Day Cup last season, began their Group A campaign with a 168-run victory over Essex at Chelmsford, where they were dismissed for 237 in 45.5 overs but bowled out their hosts for just 69.
